COURSE DETAILS
The Integration of Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy course offers mental health professionals an in-depth exploration of two highly effective therapeutic modalities and their integration for a comprehensive approach to healing trauma and promoting well-being. This course provides a unique opportunity to learn how to integrate the transformative power of IFS therapy’s internal system work with the phases of EMDR therapy.
This IFS-Informed EMDR advanced training offers an opportunity to gain skills in working with client’s protective systems. Supporting these systems can help clients feel safe enough to do the deeper work of EMDR Therapy. Some examples of parts include the over-analyzer, the perfectionist, and the critic, to name a few. A client may feel like they must do EMDR perfectly and they don’t know what you are wanting them to say during check-ins, or they are stuck in their thoughts and can’t touch into their feelings, or they start to allow themselves to feel vulnerable but then they are pulled out of their emotions by an intellectual part.
This course consists of a combination of didactic presentations, large group experiential exercises, case discussions, and demonstrations to facilitate a comprehensive understanding and practical application of the integrated approach. We will review the theory and healing steps of IFS and learn how to recognize and be with the protective parts of our clients. We will cultivate more compassion and understanding for our own parts and clients’ parts. We will conceptualize how IFS concepts and techniques overlap with each of the 8 phases of EMDR. We will learn practical strategies to help the protective parts of our clients to feel witnessed and understood to enhance the effectiveness of trauma processing and integration with EMDR Therapy.
