COURSE DETAILS
What We’ll Cover
We start this course leaning into definitions of dissociation that embrace neuroscience, psychology, and cultural competency. We will review common misconceptions about dissociation and talk about the truth of the matter.
Trainees will review the spectrum of dissociation, common symptoms, and develop a framework for conceptualizing dissociative disorders. We’ll review the concept of structural dissociation and how this differs from dorsal and sympathetic presentations of dissociation. We’ll also review assessment strategies and examine the usefulness of formal assessments such as the DES, SDQ, and MID to diagnose and align treatment interventions.
Finally, we’ll review treatment recommendations and resources to support clients heal and integrate according to their own treatment goals.
Throughout this course, you will learn to see dissociation as an adaptive, protective defense. We will depathologize this long misunderstood construct, and teach you to view dissociation as a loving and compassionate attempt of the nervous system for survival.
